Class Management keeps your reporting clean – making sure staff only see the classes they actually report on, not roll call, sport or study lines. It has two tabs: Classes (the class list) and Class Exclusions (automatic rules).

The big change: set it once, not every term

You no longer have to delete unwanted classes by hand every reporting period. Set up exclusion rules once, and any class that matches is removed automatically whenever you import a timetable (CSV or LISS). Roll call, sport and study lines simply stop appearing.

Exclude vs Delete – the important difference

  • Exclude creates a rule (added to the Class Exclusions tab). The class is removed now, and from then on every import automatically leaves matching classes out – so you never have to remove them by hand again. You can turn the rule off, or delete it, whenever you like.
  • Delete is a one-off – it removes the class from this period only, and it will come back the next time you import. Use it for a genuine one-time tidy-up.

Either way, removing a class also removes its ratings, and it can’t be undone.

Classes tab

  1. Select the reporting period.
  2. Review the list – class name, students, department, subject and teacher.
  3. To stop a class appearing for good, use Exclude on its row, or tick several and click Exclude Selected. This creates an exclusion rule from those classes.
  4. To just remove a class this once, use Delete or Delete Selected.

Class Exclusions tab

This is where the automatic rules live. Each rule matches a pattern against part of the class.

  1. Click Add Rule.
  2. Enter a Pattern and choose what to match against – class name, subject or department.
  3. Pick a match type, Wildcard or Exact (WAVE auto-detects this from your pattern; change it if needed).
  4. Add an optional Note (e.g. “Roll call classes”), make sure it’s Enabled, then Add.

You can disable a rule with its toggle, or edit and delete rules at any time. Deleting a rule doesn’t restore classes – it just stops that rule removing classes on future imports.

Pattern syntax

  • * matches any characters; ? matches a single character.
  • Roll* – names that start with “Roll”.
  • *Roll* – names that contain “Roll” (e.g. 7ROLLA).
  • 7ROLLA – an exact match, that class only.
  • Matching is case-insensitive.

Preview & Apply (clean up a period you’ve already imported)

Rules apply automatically to future imports. To clean up a period you’ve already imported, use Preview & Apply: pick the reporting period and WAVE shows exactly which existing classes match your rules. Check the list, then click Remove Matching Classes Now to delete them (and their ratings) from that period. Always glance at the preview before you apply.

Best practice

Set your exclusion rules up once, near the start – roll call, sport, study, wellbeing lines, anything non-reportable. From then on every import stays clean on its own and you’ll rarely need to touch this page again.

You’re done when

Only the classes you report on remain, and you have rules in place so it stays that way each period. Next, add student photos in Photo Upload.
